Printers for Small Businesses

How do you know what printer would be the best choice for your small business?

The answer depends a lot on your business’s unique needs. You might be in the market for an all-in-one machine that can do printouts, scanning, photocopying, and faxing while also saving floor space and money. Or you might be in a business where print quality is a priority but still need to address the requirements of a busy office.

We looked at several office copiers/printers and have picked out our recommendations for color and black and white console copiers/multi-function printers (MFPs) and desktop copiers.

TASKalfa-2552ci Color Console Copier/MFP

At 25 copies per minute, the TASKalfa-2552ci isn’t the fastest, but if producing color output is part of your business, you’re likely more interested in quality and flexibility than speed. One of its main selling points is an ability to handle oversized sheets up to 12” by 48”—suitable for signs, large forms, advertising brochures, and technical drawings. It can scan images into grayscale and color files, which can be either saved to a PC or e-mailed. With standard wireless connectivity, you won’t need to worry about lengths of cables running all over the place. Any verified device can print from anywhere in the office. And with services such as AirPrint and Google Cloud Print, you can have off-site employees access printing functions from the field.

Other features include a 140-sheet duplex feeder, two 500-sheet (20lb) paper supply drawers, and fax capabilities.

TASKalfa-4002i B&W Console Copier/MFP

Like the color copier/MFP described above, the TASKalfa-4002i can handle oversized printing, network printing, and remote printing but produces copies at a 40 copies-per-minute rate.

This machine includes a 140-page duplex feeder, twin 500 (20 lb) sheet supply drawers, scanning, and faxing.

Ecosys M3550idn Desktop Copier

Some businesses need a machine that prioritizes copy functions over others. Often, they’re also looking for speed. The Ecosys can produce 52 copies per minute—the fastest production rate we’ve looked at—with a 75-page document feeder. It can create double-sided copies with ease and its twin 500 (20 lb) sheet supply drawers mean you can produce a lot of copies and not spend too much time doing so.

It can also handle network and USB-supplied printing, scan to PC or e-mail, remote Apple AirPrint, and fax.
